GREENSBORO – Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory spoke Saturday at the North Carolina GOP Convention.

"I would like to accept the nomination as Republican nominee for the governor of North Carolina right here in Greensboro," he said.

On the second day of the convention, the former Charlotte mayor and candidate for governor spoke to local Republicans about getting North Carolina back on track after the Perdue administration.

Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty gave the keynote speech and talked about the importance of the Tar Heel State in the upcoming presidential election.

“This is a battleground state, one that Republicans should have a good chance at winning, especially when you consider the Obama record on jobs,” he said. “This is a place where Mitt Romney can and should, in my view, win."

Some 1,700 people are in Greensboro for the weekend convention, which continues through Sunday.
