RALEIGH—A Wake County jury is learning more about what was found at the crime scene the day Laura Ackerson's remains were discovered after a Texas Crime Scene investigator took the stand.

Grant Hayes is standing trial for Ackerson's murder.

Prosecutors claim the defendant murdered Ackerson, dismembered her body and then disposed the remains in a Texas creek.

However, defense attorneys argue his wife Amanda Hayes committed the crime and he helped cover it up.

The crime scene investigator, Kim Oreskovich, testified coolers, a machete and the boat that authorities said Hayes and his wife used for an evening boat ride were found at the scene.

Surveillance video showed Grant Hayes buying gloves, coolers and a trash can days before Ackerson's remains were found.

Oreskovich testified that the coolers looked brand new. She testified that hair and vegetation was found inside one of the coolers and that swabs were taken.

She did not discuss what the results of the tests were.

Grant Hayes, who has normally been seen smiling, showed no emotion during Oreskovich's testimony, as was the case on Wednesday when Oreskovich showed photos of Ackerson's remains.

Some video of the crime scene was also shown on a small television. The judge wanted to limit what the jury was shown to maintain the victim's dignity and integrity. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
