RAMSEUR, N.C. — According to the Ramseur City website, the mayor's position is vacant.

The Courier-Tribune said Mayor Hampton Spivey resigned last Thursday afternoon, the same day he was charged with simple assault. The paper said the charges stem from from an altercation the day before at an area store.

Spivey had served as the town's mayor since 1995. Mayor pro-tem Danny Shaw will take over the position until a new mayor is elected. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
