GREENSBORO — For the first time ever - the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game will be held in Charlotte.
The move takes the game to the geographic center of the league. The teams will suit up and play for the championship at Bank of America Stadium the first weekend in December. But before they can get to the big game, officials said they've got an exciting season ahead of them.
John Swofford, ACC Commissioner, said the fact that the ACC teams maintains their outstanding performance and national recognition should make for an exciting season.
“Well we've got five teams that are ranked in the top 25 in the country going into the year, that's as many as anyone in the country and I think that boards well as far as the potential for an outstanding season this fall,” said Swofford.
In honor of the move to NASCAR's home in North Carolina, Richard Childress racing donated an ACC race car to lead the way and get fans excited about the game. The car is decked out with stickers from each of the teams and well as the championship game.
