TABOR CITY, N.C. -- Tabor City's new correctional institution is now one of North Carolina's largest prisons.

The Fayetteville Observer reports the prison is now the second largest in the state behind Scotland Correctional Institution.

The Tabor Correctional Institution's new addition will officially house inmates starting in February adding 252 new spots, bringing its total capacity to over 1,700.

Work on the addition began in January of 2011 and took more than $13 million to complete.

Tabor City residents will have a chance to tour the facility before it opens Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
