ELIZABETH CITY--An Elizabeth City State University student is now a member of the city council, despite efforts to keep him off the ballot.

Montravias King won the race in Ward 4.

He's the first ECSU student to sit on the council and one of the youngest candidates in city history.

The Pasquotank County board of elections had taken King off the ballot after a challenge from the county republican party.

But the state board of elections ruled in September that king could run for city council, even though he listed his dorm room as his residence. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
