WILMINGTON — Wilmington police confirm they have found human remains in their search for a missing Wilmington woman.
At this point in time police cannot identify the body, yet an autopsy will be conducted on Monday. Alma Lawson, 83, disappeared in November in the Love Grove area. Police said a group of Cape Fear Community College students working with police discovered some new evidence while searching for Lawson.
"With the leaves turning brown and falling, a lot of the vegetation has matted down, sat down. It made the search that much more effective," said Cpl. Kevin Smith of the Wilmington Police Department.
Authorities say the evidence found by the students caused them to expand their search which led them to the remains.
