WILMINGTON — One man is now behind bars as a wanted suspect in a New Hanover County cold case homicide.

Deputies arrested Elton Eugene Robbins and charged him with the first degree murder and first degree kidnapping of Alice Renee Holmes. On May 22, 1999 the New Hanover County Sheriff's office responded to McGregor Road in Castle Hayne where they found Holmes' body in a shallow grave.

Holmes was 33, she was a known prostitute who lived in the downtown area of Wilmington. Its been 11 years since the crime was committed but the sheriff and district attorney said their hard work paid off.

"There is no statutes of limits for the state of North Carolina and justice never sleeps that means we can take a case however cold it is and bring it back into a courtroom," said Ben David, New Hanover County District Attorney.

The D.A. said they never stopped interviewing and performing scientific tests. Robbins will make his first appearance in a New Hanover County court room on Wednesday at 11 a.m. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
