Teacher faces statutory rape charges in Brunswick Co.

LELAND, N.C. – A Brunswick County teacher has been arrested and charged with the statutory rape of a student.

Leah Shipman, 39, is a transitional curriculum teacher at Brunswick County Academy. Sheriff’s deputies say the victim was 15-years old at the time.

Shipman faces one count each of statutory rape, taking indecent liberties with a student and sexual offense of a student.
