CHARLOTTE—Teachers from across the Charlotte area are protesting the state's recent budget cuts to education.
The NC Association of Educators organized a news conference to voice opinions on a variety of issues including ending teacher tenture to funding cuts for teacher assistants.
Teachers and students also participated in the rally, naming specific lawmakers and said that the public education system could be harmed by the budget.
“Teachers are the ones that are the heroes in this. Even though we are getting cutbacks, even though we are not making as much money, even though we are losing teacher assistants, our educators are still going to the front lines every day and still producing results. They are still helping kids because we are noble people. We are not going to cheat our kids out of this,” said teacher Justin Ashley.
Ashley has challeneged Gov. McCrory to work one day in the classroom to experience the effect of the recent budget cuts to education.
