CHARLOTTE – Mecklenburg County commissioners decided to put on hold a vote to ban guns in county parks.

If passed, the ordinance would ban concealed weapon permit holders on county park fields, gyms, pools and any playgrounds on park property. The proposal will be considered again at the board's May 1 meeting.

State law allows people with concealed weapon permits to carry weapons in parks but local municipalities can ban that right in some park areas.
