CHARLOTTE - Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are looking for two men who they say robbed a woman at gunpoint in the parking deck at Carolinas Medical Center.
It happened around one Tuesday morning at the deck off Scott Avenue.
The victim says they held a gun to her head and stole her purse, cell phone and wallet before taking off in a Jeep Grand Cherokee.
She was not hurt. She didn't want to speak with News 14 Carolina on camera but says she feels lucky to be alive.
The hospital says they're confident with the security measures they have in place, such as enhanced lighting and security cameras, but always review protocols whenever anything like this happens.
"The hospital is still a public place, it's open 24/7 so there's always a chance that something like this can happen,” said CMC spokesperson Kevin McCarthy. “We've got pretty good security measures and it is surprising that someone would test those.”
Officials at Presbyterian Hospital in the Elizabeth neighborhood took similar steps after three people were robbed in a matter of weeks this past summer.
One of the victims, a nurse, was stabbed three times. One person was arrested and charged in at least one of those cases.
