CHARLOTTE--A Charlotte-based clothing designer is hoping President Obama will wear one of his looks on Inauguration Day.
"When I was picking out my ties for my spring collection, as soon as I saw the tie it just jumped out and me, I was like this looks like the kind of tie President Obama would wear," said Wilson, CEO of William Wilson Clothing.
Wilson has dubbed it, "The Presidential Tie." It's a deep red silk with shimmering silver stripes he said screams of power.
"Nice satin finish and just a heavy weighted tie, when I saw it it just jumped it looked like something he would wear," said Wilson. He shipped the tie to the White House last week, in time for Inauguration Day.
"At major events you'll see him wear a red tie, he wore a red tie last inauguration, he wore a red tie when he got elected," he said. He also included a letter to the President, telling his story of how he believes his success parallels the President Obama's.
"Think about the odds of someone named Barrack Hussein Obama during this time of turmoil, being a black guy on top of that, being elected President," he said.
He said his business beat the odds despite opening in economic turmoil four years ago. Since then he's designed coats for major sporting events and celebrities. Now, he's hoping to see one of his latest designs on the President.
"It's a long shot, I know it's a long shot, and I accept it's a long shot, but my whole life is about long shots, so this is just one more added to it," said Wilson.
Wilson said the tie runs for about $175.
