Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Jeff Lewis died Saturday in Arizona. He was 39.
Lewis had been working as a wide receivers coach at his alma mater, Northern Arizona University. The school did not release a cause of death.
Lewis appeared in seven games for the panthers in 1999 and 2000.
The news follows word that one of Lewis' Panthers teammates died just a day earlier. The University of Colorado says Bryan Stoltenberg passed away Friday at his home in Texas.
A statement from the school says Stoltenberg, 40, likely died from a blood clot related to a serious accident three weeks ago. He played for the Panthers from 1998 to 2000.
