CHARLOTTE—The Charlotte zoning committee voted Wednesday night to recommend the development of a Walgreens pharmacy and office space in the Dilworth neighborhood.

In September, Charlotte City Council held a hearing for the zoning change at Kenilworth Avenue and Morehead Street. Many residents in Dilworth are against the project and have placed signs in their yards voicing their opposition.

They believe the project would not fit with the character of the neighborhood, since the developer would have tear down several historic buildings at the intersection.

Charlotte City Council is scheduled to make a final vote on the project Nov. 12.
