FAYETTEVILLE – Presumptive GOP vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan made comments at a roundtable discussion about military budget cuts.

Ryan said that is proposed cuts to defense spending are approved, North Carolina could see about 50,000 jobs leave the state.

"Under a Romney administration, we would reverse reckless spending cuts and recognize the first priority of government is a strong defense," Ryan said.

North Carolina has eight military bases located in the state, including Fort Bragg, the largest military base in the country.

Lane Kjellsen, founder and owner of K2 solutions, a small businesses out of Southern Pines that specializes in our nation's defense industry, said it is important to have someone in Washington standing behind them.

"Small business is where the nitch talent is, special operations support, requires nitch talent and they need to be able to apply the right solution to the right thing,” said Kjellsen.

Rep. Renee Ellmers introduced Ryan at the event.

Ryan was in Raleigh Wednesday where he promoted a plan to get North Carolinians back to work. Ryan also told the crowd his concerns with spending money he said the country does not have.

The roundtable event was at the Partner for Defense Innovation. The organization promotes economic development and technology with a focus on the defense industry. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
