RAEFORD, N.C.--A man and a woman in their late 20s or early 30s were shot and killed inside a mobile home in Raeford early Saturday morning.

Hoke County sheriffs say Larene Torrens and Travis Blue were murdered around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. They have charged Shawn Christopher McKoy with two counts of 1st degree murder for their deaths.

Sheriffs say after they arrived, they found McKoy still inside the home. They say he had fired multiple shots into each victim with a 9mm handgun recovered at the scene.

Friends arrived at the house Saturday morning to find out what happened, and were distraught to learn Torrens had been killed.

"That's so sad, a life gone, at such a young age," said Stephanie Lassiter, a friend of Torrens.

Friends at the scene told News 14 Carolina that Larene Torrens and Travis Blue had been seeing each other romantically, but that Shawn McKoy was Torrens' ex-boyfriend.

They believe this could have been a crime of passion or retaliation for her seeing another man, but police have yet to confirm those details.

Lassiter says she had hoped Torrens was moving on from McKoy, a man who has had multiple run-ins with the law.

"I don't choose to talk down about people, but she was progressing in her life. I told her she needs to take time for her and her daughter, and do what she need to do to get her life together," said Lassiter.

Friends say Torrens lived in the mobile home with her eight-year-old daughter, Laniyah, who was not at home at the time of the shooting.

Torrens had occasionally attended services at a local church, but had not been seen there in the past few months.

"I picked her up a few times for church, but then she promised to continue to come. We haven't seen her for quite some time," said Allan Wharton of New Life Baptist Church.
