WILMINGTON — This is the week high school football squads get to line up against someone other than themselves.

Friday night, the 26th annual BB&T Football Jamboree will mark the unofficial start of the season in the Port City.

"We get to put our product can see all the hard work and dedication the kids put in," said New Hanover Head Coach Kevin Motsinger.

New Hanover faces West Brunswick in the second scrimmage of the night, and the Wildcats will also bring a lot excitement to Legion Stadium, by being the first Wilmington High School to hit the turf during the jamboree.

"You have to be there to be on that field when you walk on that field for us to start it off. It's kind of us against them with New Hanover County Schools," said Motsinger.

The Ashely Screaming Eagles will have a tall task in front of them as they scrimmage traditional 1-A power Wallace-Rose Hill in the third match up of the evening.

"You're going against one of the best; they are community-wise, team-wise. That part I was excited about playing a top-notch program. Friday I just want to see how are kids will play against Wallace because I know they'll smack you in the face," said Ashley Head Football Coach Tom Eanes.

The fourth scrimmage will truly be a dress rehearsal for the season as the Laney Buccaneers battle a South Brunswick squad it will see again in three weeks.

"We're just going to do what we do, We don't try to script anything or go away from anything we're going to do. We're going to be who we are," said Laney Head Football Coach Greg Ditz.

The Hoggard Vikings will face off against the Whiteville Wolfpack in the nightcap of the Jamboree. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
