RALEIGH -- The state rested its case Tuesday against the man accused of killing state Board of Education member Kathy Taft . Jason Williford, 32, told the judge Wednesday morning he did not mind if his attorneys revealed his entire criminal record to the jury.
A Raleigh police detective testified that Williford did not target Taft. He said Williford attempted breaking into a different home before entering Taft's boyfriend's house.
Williford's attorneys admit he beat and raped Taft but say he is not mentally capable of committing first-degree, premeditated murder.
The defense will begin calling witnesses to testify on behalf of Williford Wednesday afternoon.
