CHARLOTTE -- Nearly a dozen people came together Saturday in south Charlotte to look for a friend who has been missing for two weeks. Max Espinoza, 36, worked as a DJ at a private residence on Saturday, May 5, and he hasn't been seen since.
"The last message that I got was that he was on his way to his house,” said Diego Puebla, one of Espinoza's friends, who last heard from him just after 1 a.m. May 6.
Puebla called Espinoza around 3 a.m., but never heard back.
"My first thought was 'he's probably home,' because he sent me the message that he was going home, but I never thought that he would disappear,” said Puebla.
But on Sunday, he didn't call back. He also didn't show up for his weekly dinner with his ex-wife and two daughters.
"For him to don't call them or don't show up to see them, it's very unusual,” said Puebla.
That's when they started to worry. About a dozen of Espinoza's friends continue to search for the man. Saturday, they blanketed the Ballantyne area looking for any clues.
"Today is a brand new day. We're hoping to find something. We're trying to collaborate with the police, give them as much information as we can,” said Carlos Diaz, one of Espinoza's friends.
While they remain optimistic, they say they're also being realistic.
"At this point, what we're doing is we're trying to do some ground searches, just exhaust all the resources,” said Diaz.
They say they just want to know what happened to their friend and where he is, and they ask for the community to help as well.
"So if you see anything suspicious that might lead us to his car or anything, let us know. We are willing to go search the area,” said Puebla.
They say they won't give up, until they find him.
Espinoza was driving a 2006 white four-door Volvo S60. If you have any information about the whereabouts of either Max Espinoza or his vehicle, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
