RALEIGH – State Rep. Bill Faison isn't shy about what's important to him.

"I really love hanging with my kids, said Faison, of his six children.

Faison grew up on a family farm in North Carolina, then worked his way through college and law school. Somewhere along the line, he realized his passion for politics.

"I'm part of something that goes back to the Acropolis in Athens. It's just a very amazing and a very special thing to me, he said.

Faison has been campaigning across the state on the issues he said are important for North Carolina, including fracking, which he says he vehemently opposes. Fracking is the controversial practice of drilling for natural gas.

"It's just a bad idea, and in North Carolina, our environmental structures are such that it puts us at too great a risk. There really aren't any jobs to come out of it. The first year at most it would be 49 jobs and most of those would go out of state,” said Faison.

He said his strong stance separates him from his challengers. He also puts his support for women's rights to control her own body as a top priority.

"[I've] argued against the Republican effort to impose restrictions between the relationship between a woman and her doctor. I mean, a Republican white guy has no business getting in between a woman and her doctor,” said Faison.

If elected governor, Faison said he has a plan to create high quality jobs.

"Part of my plan re-distributes tax loopholes from big corporations to the folks that hire less than 20 employees,” Faison said. “The small business people in this state, the 155,000 of them, to help them grow their businesses and hire."
