CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte Transit Center will have a new location during the Democratic National Convention.

The Secret Service determined that, because of detailed security sweeps in and around Time Warner Cable Arena, the transit center must temporarily relocate from Monday, Sept. 3 to Wednesday, Sept. 5.

CATS CEO Carolyn Flowers said the relocated uptown transit center won’t force long walks for riders, or shortchange their convenience.

“We’re working to provide amenities that our similar to what we have in a temporary location, so, all the way down to having food trucks,” said Flowers.

Bus riders had mixed feelings on the move.

“I do think think it’s a smart move. I think the DNC is going to bring a lot of congestion, bring a lot of, you know, people,” said Brandon Santiago.

"It probably be people getting to work late, you know what I mean, because of the situation of moving it, I think that's going to be the main problem,” said Adam Williams.

To counter those concerns, CATS leaders expect to have a tweaked plan in place by August during the temporary relocation of the transit center.
