CHARLOTTE – A southeast Charlotte woman is in custody after police say she kidnapped another woman and her two young children.

Andrea Endara-Paredes, 24, is charged with three counts of kidnapping, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and assault on a child under 12.

Police said Endara-Paredes faked a pregnancy and could have been targeting the mother for weeks in an attempt to steal her one-month-old girl.

Two women in this case vaguely knew each other. Police said Endara told the mother she could help her get a job.

Some time yesterday the woman willingly got into Endara's car with her 4-year-old and the one-month old.

When they arrived at an apartment complex off Providence Road near Fairview, police said Endara pulled a knife on the mother and took the children into an apartment.

She later came back with only the 4-year-old and drove off with the mother still in the car and rode around for about 40 minutes.

During that time detectives said Endara physically attacked the mother, but ended up returning her and the 4-year-old to their apartment on the condition that the mother told police 2 black males driving a gray car, kidnapped her one-month old.

"We brought all our resources to bear on this, because anytime you have a missing child, regardless of the age, or a missing new mother, we're going to do everything we can, to find them,” said Capt. Roderick Golding, CMPD.

When the woman's husband heard this story he called police and all three were taken to headquarters for questioning.

While Endara was sticking to the lie about the two men, the mother was able to give police the details they needed.

Around 2:30 this morning police found the one-month-old was with Endara's boyfriend at their apartment.

Police said she had faked a pregnancy and the boyfriend thought the child was his... They even had a crib set up.

Endara is in custody, but police said this was not an easy case because the suspect was not cooperating and the victim spoke little English and was not familiar with the area.

Police said it was a very emotional scene when the family was reunited early this morning. At this time police have not charged Endara's boyfriend and do not think he was involved.
