GREENSBORO—A new witness took the stand in the John Edwards' campaign finance trial.
Lawyers finished questioning former aide Andrew Young Friday afternoon and his wife, Cheri Young, began testimony. She started by testifying how she first met John Edwards and how her husband came to work for him.
Cheri Young described instances when she became very angry due to the amount of time Andrew Young spent work for Jon Edwards and his family.
Legal analyst Kieran Shanahan said Cheri Young may be a key witness as the defense attempts to destroy Andrew Young's credibility.
“She could be very cooperative as to whose idea was it that her husband claimed paternity of Ms. Hunter's baby because that was a speakerphone conversation. Beyond that I don't think we have a clue yet,” said Shanahan.
Also on Thursday defense attorney Abbe Lowell continued to question Young's credibility as an expense report was submitted as evidence.
Young divided the spreadsheet into two parts. One part into expenses for the affair; the other for Rielle Hunter.
Only the first 70 pages were taken into account. Multiple entries were listed as extravagant vacations under the affair, while they were actually vacations taken by Young's family.
