FORT BRAGG – An explosion during a live-fire training exercise injured ten military personnel Monday night at Fort Bragg.
Military officials say eight Camp Lejeune-based Marines and two navy personnel were firing 155-millimeter howitzer rounds when one of the rounds exploded inside the howitzer's barrel.
Two of the injured troops were flown to UNC hospitals. The eight others were taken to Womack Army Medical Center. Most of the injuries were shrapnel wounds and other cuts.
The military has not released the names or conditions of any of those involved.
The accident is under investigation and all live-fire training has been temporarily suspended.
