CHARLOTTE -- An employee at an east Charlotte restaurant shot and killed two armed suspects Monday night and the search is on for a third man involved in the robbery attempt.
Police say the three men entered a Pizza Hut on Independence Boulevard around 11:15 p.m. They beat one employee and tried to force two others into the cooler. One of those employees turned and fired his own gun at the suspects, shooting and killing two of them.
Medic pronounced them dead at the scene, while the third suspect fled and is currently on the run. One of the employees was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Employees at the restaurant say he is doing better and has been released.
The guns from the two suspects killed were recovered at the scene.
There is no word on whether or not charges will be filed against the employee who fired the shots. Detectives say the investigation is ongoing.
