FAYETTEVILLE -- Police now say a person they at first thought was killed in a hit and run accident was the victim of homicide. The body was found early Sunday morning near the intersection of Highway 301 and Grove Street in Fayetteville.

Police say the victim may have been beaten to death. They are still trying to determine the victim's identity. The body has been taken to the N.C. Medical Examiner's Office.

If you have any information about the incident, you're asked to call Fayetteville police.
