CONCORD, N.C. -- A police standoff shut down a Concord neighborhood and three schools for several hours Wednesday.

The incident started around 11 a.m. on Pitt School Road, between Interstate 85 and U.S. 29, when police surrounded a house in the Silver Maples community.

They say a man with a gun was threatening to harm himself. He did eventually surrender without incident.

Three Cabarrus County Schools -- Carl Furr Elementary, J.N. Fries Middle and J.M. Robinson High, were all put on lockdown. The neighborhood and schools were all reopened by 3:30 p.m. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
