LEXINGTON, N.C. -- Interstate 85 reopened late Monday morning, hours after a fatal accident closed the southbound lanes in Davidson County.
Investigators say a car traveling northbound on the interstate crossed the median and slammed into a UPS truck just after 5 a.m. near mile marker 94. Troopers say the driver of the car died. But they haven't released the person's name.
Investigators say if the car had been going slower, the cable across the median could have prevented the accident.
Troopers used Highway 64 and Business 85 to detour traffic around the accident scene.
