An Appalachian State freshman was visiting friends on Spring Break. That is the last time anyone would hear from Virginia Wood, 19, from Beaufort County. That trip was in 2007 and now her case has grown cold.
Virginia Wood's mother, Tammy Wood, prays everyday that her daughter will come home, but since the Spring of 2007 she has had to deal with the pain of not knowing what happened. The last time Tammy Wood heard from her daughter, Virginia Wood was visiting friends near Brownsville, Texas.
“I talked to her several times on the way down and that Saturday night, which was March 19, I called her and she said they were watching a movie and that she'd call me back. And that was the last I heard,” said Tammy Wood.
One important piece of the puzzle is Wood's friend, Kelly Gaskins. Wood had known Gaskins since High School and Gaskins once lived with the Wood family during her senior year. Unfortunately, Gaskins left North Carolina for Texas with Erwin Williams, 23, and the couple is wanted in North Carolina on various charges,
“They were bad people, but I am sure Virginia didn't know all of this,” said Monica Caison, with the CUE Center for Missing Persons.
Virginia Wood's car has never been found. She was driving a 2004 black Nissan Sentra with North Carolina License Plates: TTZ-6801.
While Tammy Wood doesn't know what happened to her daughter, she believes that Wiliams and Gaskins do.
“I get up every morning and just start my day over and over again and I always think about her and I know in my heart that she is going to call me. I can only be positive, that is all any of us can do,” said Tammy Wood.
