RALEIGH -- It's a battle of the beauties this week in Raleigh. The outfits, the smiles and the crowd all in the capital to see who will be crowned Miss North Carolina.

"Kensley Leonard, she's my roommate. She's doing a great job. She's really nervous. It's very different from any other pageant she's done before," said pageant attendee Jordan Lipscomb.

There is a lot of planning and preparation that goes on for the contestants before they hit the stage. The same could also be said for those who work behind the scenes.

Nora Bulluck and her sewing machine have been busy at work with the pageant for more than 20 years.

"I use to custome the whole show. Contestants, dancers. I start like in April and sew sew sew for two and a half months," said pageant seamstress Nora Bulluck.

With her niece by her side, Bulluck said she wears many different hats during the week of competition.

"Place zippers, fix shoes. Blow up balloons. Ivory soap will get anything out of anything," said Bulluck.

With the title of Miss NC at stake, the contestants will take all the help, and support, they can get.

"Family, friends, we have a whole section coming to support her," said Lipscomb.

Support in the audience and behind the scenes as 36 ladies from across the state hope to be the one wearing the crown on Saturday. ClientIP: UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
