SALISBURY -- Sheniqua Peebles has been missing for nearly a month.

Investigators said the 15-year-old Rowan County girl left home for spring break and never came back.

So far, the Rowan County Sheriff's Office said it hasn't had any successful leads while the teen's mother said she's tortured by the thought of what might have happened.

"The way I feel I wouldn't wish it on anyone because it just tears me up inside," said Tonya Connor, Peebles’ mother. She said her daughter left their Woodleaf home April 9 to stay with a nearby relative over spring break.

"She was going over to her cousin's house. That's the reason why she left," said Connor. She said Peebles was picked up by someone in a light blue Lincoln Towncar.

"I think she...was abducted, that's what I think,” said Connor.

Connor said she didn't see who was driving the car, but trusted her daughter would come back.

"She's a good girl, she got good grades, she runs track she plays basketball...she's very good," said Connor.

But when she didn't come home a week later, Connor reported her missing, only able to get in touch with her through text messages.

The last response she received was April 21.

Connor and her relatives have put up more than 700 missing child posters from Winston-Salem to South Carolina.

"We were close, we were talking, we were laughing and having fun up to this point, and it just...you just wonder, you don't understand how could this happen," said Connor.

Deputies said they haven't ruled Peebles out as a runaway. They said she may have been spotted in the Winston-Salem area.

There are no suspects at this time.

If you have any information on Peebles' whereabouts, please call 911.
