ASHEBORO — The North Carolina Zoo's management said privatization would come with some major benefits.
The state-run Zoo has been discussing the possibility of going private for the past year. The zoo director said that would increase its flexibility with fundraising and maintenance. The zoo relies on state money. It spent about $17 million last year, more than the rest of the state-owned museums combined.
The zoo also brings in more money than other state-owned attraction. Last year's profits were around $6.5 million.
